Inside Out

inside_outGroup work delivered in the Performance room to people with Mental Health Backgrounds.

The Inside Out Community is an art’s in mental health organisation founded in 2003 by Jan Addison a drama therapist, actress and sculptor and Pete Watkins a mental health professional, lecturer and author.

Inside Out seeks to put the creative process at the heart of healing and recovery. It is founded on the belief that creativity is innately part of being human and is expressed in many facets of our lives, but is expressed most vibrantly through the arts.  Inside Out is a community of people who have experienced periods of overwhelming psychological distress and social displacement and are inspired to discover a new way of being through the arts.

A programme of arts workshops is running throughout the year led by talented local artists who are enthusiastic about sharing their skills and do so in imaginative, sensitive and supportive ways. The programme usually includes fine art, conceptual and installation art, sculpting, photography, drama, creative writing, storytelling, drumming, natural voice workshops, film making and dance.

The Community is an independent organisation run by a management committee made up of Community members, mental health professionals and artists. The work of the Inside Out is funded by the Arts Council, European Social Fund, Awards for All, Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, Suffolk County Council and the Fonnereau Road Health Foundation. Participation in the workshop programme and access to the community’s web site facilities are entirely free.

Regular workshops take place in the CSV Media Clubhouse.
